HE WALLS SHIVERED ALONG with her
As she edged blindly against them
Feeling for a door, an escape hatch
Out of this preternatural
prison
There was silence.
But they were there
Waiting in the
darkness for her to falter,
They wanted to
break her. Blood spiced
With adrenaline
tasted the sweetest
She was A20 from
batch 854
An exclusive species
bred for the hunt.
Supposed to be
raised till 18.
A corrupt bureaucracy
released her
Too young. Now
stalked
For two nights
and a day
She sought to see
sunlight -
A myth to her kind.
Fleeing through
the tainted halls
She heard her mother
call
The light lay ahead
A glittery Christmas
mall
She sped through
the skull piles
Amid the bulging
halls
In seconds, her
face touched sunlight -
A warmth that entered
her whole
In horror, she
found
Her flesh raining
the ground
She never knew
She'd never escape
the cold
